Richard ‘Dick’ Winters made a rapid ascent through the ranks of the 101st Airborne Division’s Easy Company. After parachuting into Normandy as a first lieutenant on D-Day he exhibited bravery, command authority, and tactical assault excellence throughout France; just ten months later he was a major in command of the regiment’s 2nd Battalion. Winters shot to fame in the HBO show Band of Brothers but the drama of his wartime service more than matches any televised storytelling!
