Welcome to Insider Insight, a monthly behind-the-scenes peek at what the Wargames Illustrated team is up to. This new feature, exclusively available to our WiPrime Members, is a chance to highlight some of the exciting things we are working on for future issues of the magazine as well as some of the figures that are getting sculpted, painted, converted, etc. Let’s get into it! WiDigital A new WiPrime feature in 2023 is WiDigital; a new section that you can find in your Member Area containing STL files to download and print as 3D models. Ships, crew members, and extras for the excellent ancient naval battles game Thalassa are available right now - you can only download these until the end of January (at which point they will switch to something else) so don’t miss your chance to get them! February’s offering will include 28mm Ukrainian insurgents and WWII objectives. We’ve already shown these off on our social media and in a WiPrime exclusive spins video so make sure you check them out. The associated issue of Wi423 includes a painting guide for the insurgents and gaming suggestions for the objectives. That issue will hit the Vault on Monday 23 January. March’s STLs will include some ‘oldies’ in the form of our Takeda Shingen and Otto Von Bismarck Giants in Miniature figures. These were previously released in metal but can now be printed out for your gaming needs. But that’s not all in March! We are getting new figures sculpted for Never Mind the Billhooks with leaders for each of the Deluxe edition’s eight Theatres. At least a couple of these leaders will be included in March’s offering as the sculpts have already been finished. Here’s a sneaky peek at a render of Bohemia’s offering. This file will also get an alternate weapon and an alternate head with no eye patch. The beauty of digital files is that extras like this are easy to add so we can give you even more options for your army expansion. No month is locked in for our final WiDigital preview but it’s another one with variant options. World War Two legend Dick Winters has a historical head as well as one resembling his Band of Brothers version. These painted figures look very different thanks to really varied approaches, both applied by Callum France. Winters as seen in the Band of Brothers miniseries. Historical Winters. New themes for 2023 At the start of every year, the team gather and finalise the themes we hope to feature in upcoming issues of the magazine. These are always subject to change - new releases can shift our focus onto different conflicts, periods, or aspects of the hobby -
