We’re closing in on our sign-off date for another issue; always a busy time for us as we put the finishing touches to articles, track down final photos, and frantically try and fact-check something obscure and odd from one of the articles (which invariably tends to turn out to be completely true!). That doesn’t mean that the Wargames Illustrated train is about to stop trundling along. There’s barely time to breathe before the next issue needs to get sorted out or WiDigital goodies prepared to go online. Insider Insight is your peek behind the curtain at what those things will be so let’s start off by revealing a theme and some of the associated stuff that you’ll get to see in the not-too-distant future. Revisited This theme is a chance to look back with fresh (or in some cases less fresh but more experienced) eyes and reframe the hobby activity of old in a modern light. Regular contributors are returning to old articles they penned long ago and updating them for 2023. Other articles feature new versions of old projects or use old techniques and paints in new ways. We’ve also got a collection of folks to examine old favourite rulesets, assess how they hold up, and if they’ve been surpassed. While we were revisiting things, we decided to take the opportunity to return to some of our more popular Giants in Miniature releases and get new versions sculpted. There’s a Flashy duo and a recognisable WWII hero due to drop in next month’s WiDigital offering and one of the figures is previewed below. WiDigital We’re still finding our feet with the STL offerings we put out each month and treating the WiDigital figures we produce as something of a learning experience each month. So far we think we’re doing ok but we’d love to know how you’re getting on with the models. Have you printed and painted some of the files? Then let us know by emailing wi@wargamesillustrated.net with some pictures of your projects! We mentioned Billhooks extras would eventually arrive in a previous Insider Insight and they’re still being developed. Here’s a look at one of the ideas we’re experimenting with - a movement tray add-on that will bring some scenic flair to a unit and offer a slot to display a status token in. There will be other status displays in the form of arrow trackers and more. Because we don’t yet need to produce them physically and cast them up, our WiPrime Members will be the first beta test audience for what works best before anything goes into full production! We’re also working on some sci-fi pieces after getting into the objective-driven gameplay of the skirmish
