Take a tour through the Vault and read some classic Wi articles. Wargames Illustrated 371 - September 2018 The pleasures that can be found through running or participating in wargaming campaigns more than make up for the efforts required to get them done properly. As the UK weather turns grim and gloomy we're pondering what winter campaign to run in the office; while I consider the options, Wi371's theme - Gaming Campaigns - should help me out. Pete Brown is a stalwart of many a campaign and his intro article is well worth a read. It features plenty of anecdotes but is also peppered with helpful advice that will ensure any overseer is well-prepared for the demands of herding a rabble of wargamers through multiple games! If you'd rather take on a campaign where the prep work's been done for you check out Joe McCullough's Ghost Archipelago offering with various scenarios to play. It's not a specific theme article but James Morris' four Tavronitis Bridge scenarios could make for a Crete 1941 mini-campaign too. The Perry's campaigns are always a spectacle and there's a behind-the-scenes look at how they and their gaming crew go about running big games. The upcoming October issue of Wi will feature a report on Historicon 2023 and this 2018 issue does the same five years earlier, showing one of the last pre-Covid shows. There's a whole lot more stuff to enjoy too in a bumper issue. Wargames Illustrated 311 - September 2013 The American War of Independence is a fascinating conflict and makes for a great subject for this issue's theme articles. There are articles on the battles at Brandywine and Germantown along with a modelling article on building the all-important AWI fencing. You'll find loads of smashing photos throughout these pieces with lots of glorious-looking Perry Miniatures setups. If you need a broader understanding of this period of the AWI then look no further than the intro article's history and a piece on Union uniforms and equipment. Other articles that caught my attention in this issue are about more modern warfare with a piece on the Chechen Wars of the late 20th Century and another on various armoured vehicles that you couldn't exactly call 'tanks'. Wargames Illustrated 132 - September 1998 In 1998 Warhammer Historical was the system of choice for many and this 25-year-old issue kicks off with an article that takes the game Arthurian. Should you be tempted to play out these options you might want to check the October 2023 issue of Wargames Illustrated; Observation Post features a review of some great new Knights of the Round Table figures from Temple of the West. It's just a month until the Other
