Take a tour through the Vault and read some classic Wi articles. Wargames Illustrated 374 - December 2018 In an unusual and fascinating theme, this issue focuses on one man, and it's not one of the 'greats' either. Step aside, Napoleon! Decry your greatness, Alexander! Sir Adrian Paul Ghislain Carton de Wiart may not be a well-known name but the man saw some action! From the Second Boer War, through to WWII, his combat adventures spanned seven different conflicts! The theme begins with a look at his highly decorated military career, then further articles focus on some key conflicts: The Great War, interwar, and WWII. It's a fascinating progression through history, seen through the eyes of a man who was in the thick of it. Beyond that, the issue looks at Warlord's then-new Cruel Seas, Gary Faulkner (check out his Wi Presents MDF guide now!) details the decoration of an MDF building with minimal paint application, the Duke of Marlborough marches into the Battle of Oudenarde, and there's a festive truce football match with a difference. Wargames Illustrated 195 - December 2003 Heading back 20 years the issue kicks off with a Doctor Who scenario. We're pretty sure Wi's newest staff member, Charlie, will be eager to play that one if he finds out about it; he's a Doctor Who fanatic! If you have any subscription or order enquiries you'll probably find yourself chatting to him on the phone (Charlie, not the Doctor) so be sure to mention your love of all things Whovian if you want to get special treatment [Special treatment in no way guaranteed. Wargames Illustrated loves all of our readers! - Ed]. It was the time of DBR and Ray Lucas continues his series of essays in this issue, taking in notable battles. Edgehill 1642 is the focus this time and the author presents the orders of battle before breaking down the game. Next, it's the colour section. Hurrah! Some smashing photos of Napoleonics in the Caribbean shine out here. Another article that caught my eye was Chris Peers' piece on the Sino-Tibetan frontier in the early 20th Century. It's always a pleasure to read Chris' well-informed and wargaming-focused opinion and this area of the world could be the inspiration for a great new army project for 2024... not for me though, I'm already working on a project for WWII, a Hundred Years' War biggie, and (stifle your gasps folks) the first Games Workshop army I've made in many years. Wargames Illustrated 135 - December 1998 Another five years back and this issue certainly shows its age when it comes to layout... but don't be dissuaded from diving in!
